Tom Segal’s tips in more depth – New podcast & live bet adjusted plans

Further to the article on Wednesday about the new Pricewise racing strategy, I wanted to share links to the latest SBC podcast episode where I discuss it in more detail with its author – Paul Chandler-Burns.

In this 20 minute chat, he shares just why Tom is so good and how he filters his selections to bet in a smoother, more targeted fashion for steadier profits.

Remember – this strategy made him a 23% ROI at SP in 2020!

In the 2nd half of the podcast, you can also hear about the 2nd review in SBC 122 (due out next week) which features another very lucrative racing strategy – ideal for Lucky 15’s!

You can listen and download this podcast episode via the links below OR simply search ‘Smart Betting Club’ wherever you get your podcasts.

ALSO…LIVE BET CHANGES

To coincide with the release of this Pricewise article, the plan was to showcase how it works live to SBC members over the next 2 Saturdays (13th and 20th), yet the weather has changed these plans this coming weekend.

With that in mind, we will be covering what action does go ahead this Saturday (All Weather) and then the rescheduled Warwick card on Monday 15th, the Saturday 20th racing as usual along with the rescheduled Newbury card on Sunday the 21st.

Basically that is 4 days instead of the original 2!

You can read the full SBC Pricewise Strategy and follow Paul in live with a Smart Betting Club membership.

How to maximise Tom Segal and his Racing Post Pricewise tips

The first article from Issue 122 of the latest Smart Betting Club magazine has just been published featuring a special new strategy looking at how best to follow Tom Segal’s Pricewise racing tips.

For those of you unfamiliar with Tom, he is a highly respected tipster, who for years has been sharing his advice on all the major feature races via his Racing Post ‘Pricewise’ column.

Now whilst Tom is profitable, he is not the easiest to follow in at times, due to the structure of his Racing Post column and the fact he is vulnerable to long losing runs given the big odds of his selections.

Which is where this strategy comes in as it one developed and used by professional bettor and SBC feature writer, Paul Chandler-Burns to really optimise when, where and how to back Tom’s tips including:

  • How to pick out Tom’s best bets and avoid those he is putting up to fill his tipping obligations.
  • How to filter bets, especially when Tom puts up multiple bets in the same race.
  • How to stake in the most efficient manner for the best return and smoothest ride.
  • When to back his bets to win and when to back them each-way.

This filtered approach to Tom Segal’s tips in 2020 made Paul an impressive 23% ROI in 2020 and all at SP.

So it is one easily beatable if taking bookmaker prices or Betfair SP.

This has been backed up since we started proofing this service in 2021 with the record since then shown below

Pricewise PCB’s Profitable Betting Record

This service is still in relatively early days but has shown promise since we started recording results…

  • 208 bets
  • 45.5 points profit
  • 14.65% ROI

Furthermore, during the following 2 Saturdays (13th and 20th February), Paul will be sharing his filtered bets live and exclusively to SBC members for those wishing to see this strategy in action.

So, whether you follow Tom Segal in currently or are totally new to his tips, this strategy is one to check out ahead of a busy few weeks of racing and of course – Cheltenham Festival next month.

6 Reasons Why We Shouldn’t Have Sympathy When Bookies Lose

If you believe everything that the bookies say then the past fortnight has been a nightmare period for them with huge betting losses incurred for both their racing and football departments.

It all started earlier this month when the weekends football action saw 22 out of 23 short favourites obliging across the 4 main English leagues – resulting in numerous stories of multiple accas coming in and some big pay-outs.

This was then followed up on Wednesday when infamous racing trainer Barney Curley pulled off a massive betting ‘coup’ with 4 very well backed winners.

Yet despite all of this, I don’t feel one iota of pity for them, simply because there is a lot more than meets the eye with these stories.

So without further ado, here are my 6 reasons on why we shouldn’t have sympathy for bookies…

A Tale Of 3 Tipsters: The Good, The V.Good & The Downright Awful

Here at the Smart Betting Club, if we are known for one thing, it’s for getting to the bottom of just which tipster services actually make money betting (and also those that make a loss)

And this week I think it’s fair to say I have seen the best (and worst) of tipster services all laid bare…

Starting with the worst and earlier this week, I witnessed one of the funniest Twitter ‘Question and Answer’ sessions courtesy of the Racing Post who invited their followers to put forward questions to racing’s very own Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson.

Whilst many will be familiar with Tommo as a racing presenter and commentator, he is also very well known in betting circles as one of the worst tipsters out there.  Perhaps most notorious for once being out-performed by a tortoise (Yes really!), this Observer article also recalls how Tommo managed to tip just 17 winners from 89 bets (all at very short prices) without a hint of shame. He also does a great line in unintentional Alan Partridge impressions as this now infamous video also proves.

Sadly that is where the joke ends as Tommo has run a much panned tipster line for years…the type of which has attracted plenty of ire over the years. You know the score – Expensive service with no listing of results, tipping up short priced loser after loser and generally being awful.

All of this led to a takeover of the Q and A session where the hashtag #RPQA seemed to be filled with more about his failed tipping than the book he was onto promote. Something I can’t imagine they will be repeating anytime soon either! Continue reading

Although bundled for free with tomorrows Racing Post, the 2 key questions that you need to ask before following their tips are…

    And…

How Good Are The Racing Post Football Tipsters?

Yesterday saw the release of the Racing Post half-time team talk update on the football season, featuring fresh analysis and tips on the best ante-post bets from many of their in-house experts.

The key question that many will be asking…is just how well have the Racing Post football tipsters actually done since the start of the season? After all, before you sign-up to follow their experts, you would want to know how their track record stands up since August.

So, to help answer this question, the team at SBC have reviewed Racing Post’s ‘Big Kick-Off’ supplement (which was released prior to the start of the new football season in early August) and which featured their first batch of ante-post bets. The findings are a must for anyone following their tips in and what follows is a full rundown of its performance so far this season.

The main focus of the Big Kick Off was their English Premier League advice, so this is what we honed in on for this article. In total there were 4 main tipsters – Mark Langdon, Tony Cascarino, Didi Hamann and..ahem ‘Unknown Tipster’ who put forward top flight tips. Here is how they fared…

Mark Langdon

Mark is the Racing Post go-to guy when it comes to English Premier League tips and his name was attributed to 15 different League bets in August’s pre-season update. The bad news is only 3 of the 15 are now trading lower than their original odds with just 1 bet (Man U to win the title) actually a winner were the season to end today. His best looking bet appears to be Juan Mata to top the assists charts at 22/1, as he is currently joint 2nd and trading at 8/1.

Bets that look unlikely to come off for Mark include Swansea and Stoke to go down, his top scorer bets on Bent, Cisse, & Borini plus his suggestion to back QPR on the handicaps.

The £5 Million Betting Fraud Scandal & How To Spot Good, Bad & Ugly Tipsters

Tipsters, love or hate em, they are here to stay and depending on your own experiences, this is either a bloody good thing or something that wakes you up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night.

Fact is, the tipster industry is like any other ‘investment’ area with its own set of good egg’s balanced out by the occasional downright scoundrel. Indeed, just this week we saw the very worst of the industry with a £5 million tipster fraud scandal in the news, something which we warned SBC members about back in 2006.

This is in direct contrast to many well run professional tipsters that we report upon here at SBC, many of whom continue to make genuine profits for our members.

Therefore, it is well worth being aware of some of the good, bad and ugly practices about tipsters to make sure you are as informed as possible.

After all, our role here at SBC is to help guide you through the tipster maze, so let me reveal to you a few of the best and worst in my own somewhat dubious Clint Eastwood accent!

Just how Good Are The Racing Post’s Tom Segal and Pricewise Extra?

Anyone picking up today’s copy of the Racing Post wont failed to have noticed the big splash made on their front page about Tom Segal bagging a couple of winners yesterday for his Pricewise tips column.

Tom highlighted both Marcret and Absinthe who won at 13/2 and 10/3 SP, whilst he also picked out Jack Dexter for their subscription based Pricewise Extra service at 9/2 SP. (As a side-note, it’s worth noting that the 11/2 claimed by the RP on Absinthe would have been reduced by non-runners and Rule 4 deductions)

Naturally Tom should be pleased with himself for doing so well yesterday, but the bigger question is…just how well do his betting tips stack up over time?

Well I want to tackle that today as since October 2009, we have been tracking every single one of the tips supplied by the Racing Post’s Pricewise Extra service in order to report back to our members. Continue reading
